Serving women and men in need in Yankton
ZoeCare began as a conversation between two friends, and in the prayers of many. Several years ago, God placed a burden on my heart for women in desperate situations. While listening to the lyrics of the song “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman, I began to think about women in Yankton, even in my own neighborhood, who were in situations that left them feeling hopeless and lost. I started to pray that God would send women into my life who were in desperate need of help and the Good News of the Gospel. At the time, I did not know the answer would be a Pregnancy Resource Center. However now, I can think of nothing better.
In the Spring of 2019, myself and a couple of friends attended a fundraiser for a pregnancy center in Orange City, Iowa. This event led to conversations about the need for more pregnancy resources in Yankton. At first, I was hesitant to lead this project. I kept thinking, “Not me. Not now. I have four small children!” But the Holy Spirit is persistent and kept gently nudging my heart and whispering in my ear “God has called you for such as time as this. He will go with you and supply all of your needs.” How could I resist an invitation like that?! From the moment I put a “Yes” in my heart, God set his plan in motion.
God led a wonderful and diverse group of people to serve as the founding Board of Directors. We worked and prayed together as we chose a name for the pregnancy center, wrote vision and mission statements, applied for 501(c)(3) status, developed a logo, and found the perfect location for the ZoeCare. In December, ZoeCare was chosen as a recipient of the Life Launch Grant Program sponsored by Heartbeat International. Heartbeat International recognized a great need and the potential to make a positive change in Yankton County! The Life Launch Program is a $30,000 matching grant that provides $20,000 in funding and $10,000 in resources. In March 2020, ZoeCare received the generous donation of 4-D ultrasound machine and exam table from Planning Life, in Sioux Falls.
As I reflect on the events that have taken place, a verse keeps coming to mind: Psalm 66:5 ”Come and see what God has done, His awesome deeds for mankind.” It is evident that God is the source of inspiration and the power behind this ministry. He will use me, the Board of Directors, and many supporters to be His hands and feet to spread hope to the women and families in our community and to build a culture of life!
Thank you for reading the ZoeCare story, but I want to invite you to do more than that. Join us! Would you consider becoming a financial partner or volunteering? Come and see how God will work through this ministry that has the power to spread hope, provide support to women who are struggling, and to share the gospel with the lost, that they may be found.
All for Jesus,
Rachel Jones, Founder/Executive Director
